أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَيْرٌ مُّسْتَقَرًّا وَأَحْسَنُ مَقِيلًا

  • وقد ذكر الله سبحانه وتعالى في كتابه ما يُشير إلى مدّة ما يستغرقه الحساب من يوم القيامة وذلك في قوله عز وجل : ( أصحاب الجنة يومئذ خير مستقرا وأحسن مقيلا ) {الفرقان : 24} : فهذه الآية الكريمة تدل على انقضاء الحساب في نصف نهار لأن المقيل القيلولة أو مكانها ، وهي الاستراحة نصف النهار في الحر .  [Be the first to translate...]
  • Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet (saw) said: “For the believers, the (length of) the Day of Resurrection will be like the time between Dhuhr and ‘Asr.”  [Mustadrak al-Haakim]

Explanatory Note

On the other side we find the believers, who dwell in heaven, in a perfectly contrasting image: “On that day, those destined for paradise will be graced with the best of abodes and the fairest place of repose.” They are well settled, enjoying their comfort. This feeling of settlement contrasts with the scattered dust in the opposite image, and the reassurance felt by the believers contrasts with the fear of the unbelievers that obliges them to make a worried prayer.

7. Period of Revelation

It appears from its style and subject matter that like Surah 23: al-Mu’minun (The Believers) it was also revealed during the third stage of Prophethood at Makkah. Scholars and commentators if the Qur’an like Ibn Jarir and Imam Razi have cited a tradition of Dahhak bin Muzahim that this Surah was revealed eight years before Surah 4: an-Nisa’ (The Women).
