إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ

Explanatory Note

This ayah suggests permanent awareness of God's punishment, because what incurs such punishment may occur at any moment. God does not require anything more than such awareness from people. Should they slip or succumb to weaknesses, His forgiveness and mercy are always available, and the door to repentance is always open. This is the middle course Islam charts between a total lack of awareness on the one hand and excessive worry on the other. A believer's heart counters worry with hope, reassured of God's grace in all situations.
